After my post on Art Pepper's The Complete Surf Club Sessions, I received the following e-mail from Don Frese:
"Thanks for the kind appreciation of Art Pepper, probably my favorite musician. I bought the Capitol Shorty Rogers/Gerry Mulligan 12 inch LP in 1956 and fell in love with his playing about one chorus into Over the Rainbow.
The Bob Andrews material on Norma [Art Pepper Live at the Lighthouse '52, NOCD 5630] may still be available, but Japanese issues tend to go in and out of print. I have found that if it is available, a good source is Early Records in Japan (www.earlyrecords.com).
And don't we owe a debt of gratitude to Bob Andrews for all the wonderful live material from LA in the early 50s? The West Coast's Jerry Newman."
