Pompy Pompadopolous

Could you please always list label affiliations when writing about Jazz recordings?

It is interesting and instructive and helps follow the trail of various Jazz men.

What label were these big band recordings done for?

Thank you.

Red Colm O'Sullivan

One of my very greatest jazz "if onlys": I so, so wish DeFranco and Shearing had recorded TOGETHER.
I had the opportunity to ask Mr. DeFranco, and he graciously explained, of course, that M.G.M. and Capitol were, necessarily, exclusive. Later in their careers, though, both were on Concord at the same time, and that's when they should have done it (I should have been a record producer). I forgot to say that at the time to Mr. DeFranco (and went on to take the opportunity to praise the Tatum record and the wonderous Riddle "Cross Country Suite"). It remains one of the pairings in jazz I, personally, would most have treasured though. Oh well.
