Rather than post prose today, I've decided to share with you some of my favorite video clips viewed over the past week. As my friends know, I'm a YouTube junkie, trawling the site daily for little-known and hidden jazz, rock and soul videos. Below are five favorites:
Here's accordionist Mat Mathews from July 1997...
Here's Nina Simone singing The Look of Love...
Here's Dusty Springfield on perhaps her best televised version of The Look of Love...
Here's Springfield announcing and interviewing the Beatles in October 1963...
Here's James Brown working through a medley of hits and steps. Hang in for the dance-off between Brown and Davis...
And finally, here's Sarah Vaughan with pianist Ronnell Bright in Sweden in 1958 singing September in the Rain, Loverman, Mean to Me and a stunning Tenderly. Dig Ronnell's chord voicings behind Vaughan! (I spoke with Ronnell yesterday and he's doing great. Go here for my interview with him)...

Great clip of Sarah. What kind of mic is she singing into? Do the earrings come with the mic?

Get down wi'chur bad self! Sammy Davis and JB? Turn 'em loose and you got the comedy hit The Odder Couple--dig it, sorta "Hip, Flop, and Fly." But I'd pay big to watch a real Dance-Off between the two: Bojangles Toe-to-Toe with Rubberlegs. And when JB drove Sam down to his knees, maybe Frank could come from the wings and wrap Sam in his sable coat?

Wonderful clips from Sarah. YouTube is sure a treasure trove.
Thanks Marc.
