Now I really loved reading this Amram interview - esp the stuff about the Pettiford big band (my favourite), and those comments about Kenny Dorham were beautiful...
Mr. Amram came to Ireland about 4 years ago, and I got to spend a lot of time with him over an extended weekend - he was wonderful, and EVERYBODY fell in love with him (and with his larger than life freind, Howard Pearl, who came along for fun.). What a trip! I'll never forget how he really lived and exemplified that beautiful beat philosophy... insisting I sit in and play with him on his concert, gifting me with CDs: generousity all the way!
If the opportunity ever arises, please tell him he's loved in Ireland for all that and by me!
(RED, Colm O'Sullivan).
