Bill Holman's arrangement of "Stella By Starlight" on Contemporary Concepts is one of my all-time favorite performances. Just listen to the writing in the first 45 seconds - the way the chords keep building, with the notes within the chords constantly changing. And what a soulful solo by Charlie Mariano - a criminally underrated jazz master. If this track doesn't make you get goosebumps, then maybe jazz isn't your cup of tea. A masterpiece.
