according to Bird's Diaries by KEN VAIL, Bird received $650 from George Wein for the week plus $186 for 2 extra days. when he was paid on march 14th, he sent the money to Chan! Bird was always sending money to Chan when he was on the road. He really cared about his family. But we all know Bird was susceptible to drugs and alcohol. i think if Bird had lived, he would have contributed along the lines of atonality and collective improvisation like what we get from the young players today. Bird loved classical music, Bartok, Hindemith et al
