In The Wall Street Journal this week, I interviewed Andrew Lloyd Webber for my "House Call" column in the Mansion section (go here). Andrew is the composer of the music for Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Evita, Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard, School of Rock and many other Broadway shows. But despite his enormous wealth, fame, 5,000-acre estate in England and a vast art collection, Andrew misses something from childhood that was accidentally thrown out. He still wishes he had it today. His memoir, Unmasked, is out this week along with a CD set (go here). [Photo of Andrew Lloyd Webber courtesy of Andrew Lloyd Webber]
For my "Playlist" column, I interviewed British novelist Sophie Kinsella on her favorite song—Take That's Shine (go here). The U.K. pop song helped her get through the temporary loss of her hands due to a long history of bad posture. A lesson for everyone who works long hours at their desk. Yes, I know, I know. I learned a few things. Sophie's latest novel is Surprise Me. [Photo of Sophie Kinsella above courtesy of Sophie Kinsella]
SiriusXM. Apologies to those who tuned in last Wednesday to catch me on Feedback, on SiriusXM's talk music channel VOLUME (Ch. 106). Due to the n'oreaster, we shifted the date to March 15. So tune in Thursday, March 15, when I'll be the guest of music-maven co-hosts Nik Carter and Lori Majewski (above) (more about the show here).
Nanette Fabray. Following my post last week paying tribute to entertainer Nanette Fabray, Aurin Primack sent along an image of Fabray and her husband with Harry Belefonte and his wife at Birdland circa the late 1950s. Aurin is the son of Morris Primack, one of the original investors in the club. Turns out Fabray was hipper than we thought.
