Somebody out there is reading JazzWax who wasn't born when I started the blog. For me, that's a freaky thought. Fifteen years ago today, I launched JazzWax after a nudge from my late friend Terry Teachout. When I went to register a URL, I came up with JazzWax, which I viewed as a hybrid: Jazz, as in the music. And wax, as in the Runyonesque word for records used by entertainment trade publications of the 1940s; wax, as in to grow in size; and wax on, as in to expound. A triple entendre!
Nearly 7 million pageviews and three Jazz Journalist's Association awards later, JazzWax is still going strong with 12,000 followers and 4,680 posts. This year, as in past years, I celebrate JazzWax's birthday by taking a day off from posting. This gives me a break and allows you to think about what you get six days a week for free.
A special thanks to those who catch my typos each day, flag my errors and email me to let me know I've turned them on to something interesting and exciting. I'll see you tomorrow.
