Jim Hall remains one of the most fascinating, sophisticated and original guitarists to emerge from the 1950s. His inventive song introductions, his chord voicings and ringing, jagged style are still remarkably fresh and ahead of their time.
Which is why a recent email I received from Tom Csatari of Uncivilized Tom was so intriguing. Tom made me aware that someone named Bernie had uploaded a Jim Hall compilation to YouTube six years ago called Unissued: 1982-1992. After giving a listen, I was astonished at how profound and beautiful Jim's live and studio recordings from this period are to this day.
The Jim Hall estate last night told me they were unaware of the material or the uploaded YouTube clip.
According to the YouTube upload, these are the six tracks and the musicians below....
- Baubles, Bangles and Beads (Wright-Forrest) - 10:07
- Body and Soul (Heyman-Sour-Eyton-Green) - 11:40
- Three (Frisell) - 5:47
- Secret Love (Webster-Fain) - 12:58
- Beija-Flor (Cavaquinho-Silva-Tomas) - 10:09
- Running Out of Gas (Hall) - 10:01
