Yesterday, I introduced you to Carol P. Chamberland, director of The Legend of Bop City, a video documentary on a storied nightclub in San Francisco that was a center of modern jazz in the 1950s and early '60s. The club closed in 1965.
Carol tirelessly devoted more than five years interviewing, editing and packaging interviews to tell the club's story. Then she ran aground, commercially, when faced with the staggering expense of music rights. As a result, the video has never been available for sale on DVD and only has appeared at few screenings and on public television.
Now Carol has graciously made her video available for five days so that JazzWax readers can enjoy it. As readers know, JazzWax doesn't charge for subscriptions and is an open, public blog devoted to sharing jazz knowledge and education.
Take advantage of this opportunity. Many of you will be seeing this documentary for the first time. You will be able to watch the video for a limited time—from now until Sunday night at midnight (ET). Then the video goes back in the can, and you may never see it again.
