I totally agree with your assessment, and how great to hear all of these tunes compiled in one place. Bravo. I didn’t realize how widespread he was. “Soulful Days” is the first tune of his that caught my attention. If there were a female equivalent to Cal Massey, I would nominate Sara Cassey. Her composition “Warm Blue Stream” made a huge impression on me when I first heard it on a Harry James record as a youth. That melody haunted me for decades until a post of yours tied it all together for me with others I’d heard. I recently found another version of “Blue Stream” by Nat Adderley on a Riverside album called “Branching Out.”
