If you want to hear a jazz album that’s surely going to win a Grammy this year, put on Charles Lloyd’s Figure in Blue (Blue Note).
Thanks for the tip. Just listened to the album. A+. They weren’t just doodling the blues.
Was wondering about whether to get this
Thanks for posting!
The Hamburg concert has been streamed tonight. It was magic.

Thanks Christian.
Heartily seconding your endorsement of this album and Lloyd generally!
"Song My Lady Sings” has long been my favorite of Lloyd’s pieces. It’s been recorded numerous times. Here are two versions I like:
Lloyd with Gabor Szabo:

Cannonball Adderley Sextet, 1964:

The Adderley Sextet version of “Lady” has solos by the Adderley brothers and Zawinul. I suspect that Lloyd’s solo was edited out. Here’s a video with a faster, shorter version and a solo by Lloyd that is his best I’ve heard on this tune:

This is my favorite of Lloyd's ballad recordings::
Cannonball Adderley Sextet, 1964—“Do You Love Me?”:

Excellent. Thanks so much, Bill. Most insightful, as always.
Just heard a few tracks of the album... just wonderful. So this will be my next CD purchase.
By the way, he starts his tour in Europe in a few days:
November 8th - Vienna, Austria
November 10th - Brno, Czech Republic
November 12th - Vilnius, Lithuania
November 14th - Antwerp, Belgium
November 16th - Madrid, Spain
November 18th - Mannheim, Germany
November 21st - Hamburg, Germany
November 23rd - Wroclaw, Poland
