Editor's Note: Jumpin' With My Boy Sid in the City
Sid Gribetz, one of jazz radio's finest hosts and educators, has a new site and podcast
I’ve known Sid Gribetz for a long time. We go back to the late 1980s, when I’d call his jazz radio show on WKCR-FM in New York to tell him something and was met with his stock phone greeting: “No soap radio.”
Most JazzWax readers probably know Sid’s name from my weekend posts. I’ve long mentioned his five-hour Jazz Profiles tributes to individual artists, regular broadcasts that could be heard worldwide online.
If you’ve enjoyed Sid’s programs—or you’re now curious about why I’m raving—let me pass along news that Sid just shared with me: A huge number of his glorious five-hour tributes are now available for free at his new site.
The site is an astonishing repository of educational jazz programming. Sid not only knows his stuff but he also has great taste in the songs he chooses to air and his historical narratives. This is jazz the old-fashioned way—music, history and intelligence, delivered by a jazz voice that’s both hip and knowing.

Which artists are up at Sid’s site? You’ll find them all listed with links for one-click access by going here.
Just scroll to chose an artist and click the photo to start the broadcast. Breathtaking stuff and sound quality. I spent yesterday afternoon writing while listening to Sid’s five hours on organist Charles Earland. What a groovy site. Truly!
You can even download the broadcasts. How’s that for a holiday gift? Trust me, you’re going to thank me up and down when you check it out.

Unsure how to upgrade to paid? It’s easy. Find the “Upgrade to paid” button on any post or in the “Manage subscription” section of your account settings. Give it a click, choose a paid plan. Then you can sign in to JazzWax.com any time of day or night and enjoy.
More fun stuff.
