That morning, my brother called at 9:10. I was preparing for a meeting in Midtown a few hours later with clients from Ernst & Young, the accounting firm, to go over the galleys for my book on the new tax law explained in layman’s terms. “Where are you?,” my brother said. “Sitting in my kitchen, why?” “Turn around.” Looking straight through my living room out over Upper West Side buildings to southern Manhattan, I could see a charcoal cloud rising in the distance. “What’s that?,” I asked. “A plane just hit one of the Twin Towers.” [Photos above and below by Marc Myers]
