As every weekend, "Editor's Note" is one of my highlights. And once again I was not disappointed. Your photos from the Central are wonderful. My favorite is the photo from the gentleman with the guitar.

And the photo of the fire station with the two houses on the left and right... this is how I have imagined New York for decades. 🙂

"The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" and "Agent Zeta" are on my watching list now. 👍

I didn't just listen to one track by Don Patterson, but the whole album. 💽🎶🎧

Last night I enjoyed yet another piano trio live stream from Clement's Place, this one with Cyrus Chestnut joined by Gerald Cannon and Willie Jones III - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDnHlwtkwCU

Hi Marc -

It's always great to see Jazzwax in my inbox. I was working my way through the tunes and when I got to Don Patterson, the guitarist "Blue Grant" piqued my curiosity, so I used chatgpt:

Who is guitarist blue grant on don patterson sonny stitt donnybrook

The guitarist credited as “Blue Grant” on Donnybrook is actually Grant Green.

Here’s what’s going on:

• On the album Donny Brook by Don Patterson with Sonny Stitt, the guitarist is Grant Green.

• He was credited under the pseudonym “Blue Grant” because he was under contract with Blue Note Recordsat the time.

• Record labels often required exclusive rights, so musicians sometimes used alternate names when appearing on other labels.

So:

👉 “Blue Grant” = Grant Green (one of the great soul-jazz guitarists of the 1960s)

Have a great weekend and thanks for brightening my days!

Peter
