This is absolutely fascinating! I've allways been drawn to quintet recordings from the early 60s, and hearing about Hancock's work at just 20 really puts his later success into perspective. I remember stumbling across a used copy of Out Of This World at a record shop years ago. The interplay between these three musicians still sound so fresh today.

Great job, Marc. BTW, in the late 1980s, I did a gig in Atlanta with bassist Laymon Jackson, who had moved back to his home town. Jackson and Hancock had roomed together in NYC when Herbie first moved there in 1961.

Also, despite the official credits, the music for "Day Dream" was written by Billy Strayhorn alone, with lyrics by John Latouche. Duke Ellington had little or nothing to do with it.
