I re-listened to 'Courage' only recently and was reminded what a wonderful collection of songs and performances; although Creed was not able to record with Milton again, he kept faith with the songs, including six of them later that same year with Paul Desmond on 'From the Hot Afternoon' and later recording 'Salt Song' and 'Vera Cruz' with Stanley Turrentine. A Great article, thanks Marc!
I subscribed to a number of people’s Substack, although not as a paid subscriber.. There are some really good ones, but I just can’t subscribe to everybody’s… I have to say however, that I think that subscribing to JazzWax has been absolutely worth it.. so many great articles I’ve received over the last number of months.. and I have highly recommended it to other people.. I decided to write this today because of the article on Milton Nascimento.. truly an artist that influenced me a lot over the last 50+ years
That was one hell of an interview with Creed Taylor, Marc. I just read the 19 parts in the tribute post from 2022. I think it was one of the longest interviews I ever read. After reading it, I feel like I know Creed Taylor a whole lot better.
I wasn't familiar with the Milton Nascimento album “Courage” yet. I can hardly believe it myself.
I´m very open-minded and make an effort to listen to many new jazz releases. However, I´m constantly struck by the fact that there are still so many older jazz recordings I haven't heard yet - even though I am already 58 years old and have been a jazz fan for over 40 years. I look forward to another 40 years filled with great jazz music and hopefully, JazzWax will be a constant companion along the way.
Amazing post! Loved it 💘
