In addition to being a masterful saxophonist, Oliver Nelson was an extraordinary arranger for big bands and orchestral strings. He was so good at creating sophisticated, engaging jazz charts that he found a ton of work in Hollywood in 1967, when he moved there to write for the movies and TV.
