The organist's album in a trio setting has a hip and tasty feel

Richard “Groove” Holmes was part of an early-1960s wave of jazz organists who were recorded by mainstream jazz labels. The success of organists Jimmy Smith and Shirley Scott in the late 1950s was evidence that there was interest in organ combos on a large scale. Up until then, trios of organ, guitar and drums were the staple of black after-hours clubs in major cities.
