Shelly Manne was the West Coast’s most prominent and prolific jazz drummer. A veteran of several major New York ensembles in the early and mid-1940s, Manne was best known for his work with Woody Herman and Stan Kenton in the late 1940s and early 1950s. As a leader, Manne fronted a band known as Shelly Manne and His Men.
