In response to NBC’s initial success with the dashing Peter Gunn detective series from 1958 to 1960, CBS launched Mr. Lucky (1959-1960). Both were created by Blake Edwards, with music by Henry Mancini. The cool, urbane vibe of those series all but ended the country’s galloping appetite for Westerns.
