Bill Evans and Sonny Clark were close friends. Evans admired Clark’s swing, his touch and the elegance of his two hands working together. Both pianists came up in New York in the late 1950s and early ’60s—Evans as a modal player and Clark as a hard bopper. Both admired Bud Powell.
