Thanks for the tip! And for giving Charlie Rouse his due. Monk also played and recorded with Coltrane, Rollins, and Johnny Griffin, so some fans damn Rouse with faint praise, but I'm with you: he was perfect for the Monk quartet.
I'm really looking forward for this great CD release. In the archives of the german public radio stations are some many great recordings of top jazz musicians. Mostly concert recordings. But in a few cases the musicians were invited to the radio studio and record there. For example RIAS Berlin (Radio in the american sector) invited the Stan Kenton Orchestra while their Europe tour in 1973. These tracks were recorded only for broadcasting a few days later and then the tape was put in the vault. Of course, fans recorded the broadcast with their private equipment. Hopefully more and more great radio recordings will be officially available in the future like this wonderful Thelonious Monk concert in Bremen. But here's Stan Kenton in Berlin, Germany. Enjoy!
First a fun anecdote, then a weird, weird occurence. The anecdote! I believe it was this tour (she probably did it every tour) Monk’s wife collected the band’s empty Coca Cola bottles, brought them back to the US, where she redeemed them. (The baggage weight limit might have been higher bacl then… 😉) Then I said “What was his wife’s name. I gotta google this…” Wait for it… Are you sitting down… Well, ok, then: https://postimg.cc/xJzDPyG3

Absolutely. Monk and Rouse 'got' each other like few others could. Synergy.
