Eastern Rebellion with George Coleman & the trio formerly known as The Magic Triangle (as the Walton-Jones-Higgins trio was billed on six or seven excellent prior albums on Steeplechase and Muse with Clifford Jordan as putative leader -- CJ used Cedar on three of his Riverside albums between 1960-1962, as well as Glass Bead Games, and recorded many of Cedar's great tunes - I'm not sure why you decided not to mention him or these albums here) is a wonderful album. Thank you for bringing it back to our attention. In addition to Eastern Rebellion and Night in Amsterdam (with Hilton Ruiz), GC made a wonderful duo album with Tete Montoliu in 1977 for Timeless, titled Meditation.
Thanks Marc, I enjoyed listening to these groups every moment in these last 50 years. With this recording I started my label Timeless Records in 1975/1976. As many records on our label, we recorded musicians and groups after bringing them in extensive tours all over Europe. In many countries these were the first jazz tours and I was able to set up a circuit, so the jazzmusicians could come regularly from the USA and other countries to perform in new places. This way the musicians were in excellent shape to deliver beautiful recordings. Cedar, Sam and Billy with George Coleman were a perfect fit. George Coleman recently told me on the phone how proud he was of the Eastern Rebellion record and his Quartet album Amsterdam After Dark.
The later Eastern Rebellion albums had a bit different line ups but all got great reviews.
Many times jazzjournalists commented that the records were considered the bebop records of the seventies. I am so proud of having the opportunity to be able to work with so many excellent musicians. 50 years Passion in jazz was just wonderful. Wim
Thanks, Wim, for all of your had work and great taste in jazz documented on the Timeless label and on the road in concerts. Happy Holidays to you and your famiily from everyone at JazzWax.
'Eastern Rebellion' one of the finest discs of the 1970's

Thank you for shining light here. The Umbria recording is a real treat — great camera work watching those guys play!
I only ever found their fourth album, but I seriously wore it out in high school. A stellar ensemble deserving of more attention.

Just saw the full hour of the Umbria Jazz Festival. Great performance in front of a great backdrop 👍.
I have none of the "Eastern Rebellion"-CDs. So it's a great discovery for me again.
