Dexter’s widow, Maxine, published a biography of him a few years ago. The events of the 1950s were so painful for Dexter that he wouldn’t talk about it. That period is unaccounted for in the book. Stunning how the dearth of recordings from the ‘50s was supplanted by the Blue Note treasure trove of the ‘60s. All were instant classics.
