I have something for you, but first let me share a way for you to be a much happier person each and every week.
If you subscribed as free or just follow, you’re cheating yourself out of a world of good. First, you missed out on three great posts this past week—videos of Bud Powell playing in Europe, including the full rare documentary short Stopforbud; a 1958 album featuring 27 trombonists that still kills; and my essay on why Chet Baker became the first jazz musician to be universally viewed as cool.
All it takes is a measly $10 a month to receive all five weekly posts and full access to JazzWax. This allows you to log on at any time, day or night, and read everything you want at your leisure and listen to hours of great music curated by me.
We both know you’re eventually going to make the jump. Why not do it now and stop missing out?
Here’s how to do it—Find the “Upgrade to paid” button on any post or in the “Manage subscription” section of your account settings. Give it a click.
Switching gears, last week I appeared on Mike Jones’s podcast The Stereo Image. Mike is a jazz pianist and music director for the popular Penn & Teller Show in Las Vegas and other venues worldwide.

Here’s Mike in action on a Duke Ellington medley…

I just heard Mike Jones´s podcast. It was a joy to hear two very articular persons. And both of you had some great Tony Bennett memories. Wonderful.
I'm finding this post rather distasteful, given what's going on due to the Shutdown and millions of families wondering how they will put food on the table or pay their rent.
"All it takes is a measly $10 a month" What a classy statement.
"We both know you’re eventually going to make the jump..." Such arrogance.
"If you subscribed as free or just follow, you’re cheating yourself out of a world of good .." Really??
I'm hoping that you yourself, did not write this garbage. It's clear that Substack has now gone from a platform of interest and thought to one simply and grubbily of maximizing revenue at any length or cost.
If you did write this Mr Myers, then you should be ashamed of yourself.
