I just heard Mike Jones´s podcast. It was a joy to hear two very articular persons. And both of you had some great Tony Bennett memories. Wonderful.

I'm finding this post rather distasteful, given what's going on due to the Shutdown and millions of families wondering how they will put food on the table or pay their rent.

"All it takes is a measly $10 a month" What a classy statement.

"We both know you’re eventually going to make the jump..." Such arrogance.

"If you subscribed as free or just follow, you’re cheating yourself out of a world of good .." Really??

I'm hoping that you yourself, did not write this garbage. It's clear that Substack has now gone from a platform of interest and thought to one simply and grubbily of maximizing revenue at any length or cost.

If you did write this Mr Myers, then you should be ashamed of yourself.

I'm sorry you feel this way, Mr. Smith. Clearly, my intention wasn't to minimize the Federal government's shutdown nor the hardships faced by its furloughed and unpaid workers. That's a tragedy.

My note was simply to let free-subscribed readers know what they are missing and to encourage them to support my creative work. JazzWax is an enterprise now and how I pay my bills. No different than theaters charging for movies, supermarkets charging for food and restaurants charging for meals. The so-called "shame" you mention doesn't apply here, and I think you know that.

Separately, JazzWax is a politics-free zone where readers come and enjoy music and history, free from the static of the news. Please know that. I respect your viewpoint and understand how my words could have been read that way. I assure you that my motive and intentions were simply a kind reminder to consider a paid subscription. No more, no less.
